Liverpool secured an emphatic win for the third game in succession, this time putting five past a sorry Tottenham Hotspur side in a game that turned out to be Andre Villas Boas’ last in charge of the North London side.

Luis Suarez was again in fine form for the Reds, having a hand in all five of their goals.

The Uruguay international gave the visitors the lead on eighteen minutes, before the equally impressive Jordan Henderson followed up Suarez’s save effort to double their advantage five minutes before the break.

Jon Flanagan then fired his first ever professional goal fifteen minutes from time to the delight of his teammates and fans alike, while a second from Suarez and Raheem Sterling added to the host’s humiliation.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are now just two points behind leaders Arsenal, who lost 6-3 at Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime and joint on points with Chelsea, who beat Crystal Palace later in the day.

The club will now turn their attention to Saturday afternoon’s visit of Cardiff City, when three points will see them reclaim top spot while should they win and Arsenal and Chelsea draw against each other on Monday, the Reds will top the table on Christmas Day.
